NLFH is a 201-bed hospital with level two trauma care that is recognized both locally and nationally as a top ranked hospital (No. 12 in Chicago and Illinois for 2022-2023) and has become a regional referral center for surrounding communities. Family Medicine residents work as part of the hospitalist team to acutely manage patients admitted to our inpatient service. The hospital also includes pavilions for outpatient care, and residents rotate one-on-one with nationally renowned physicians across multiple subspecialties. More than 800 physicians practice at Lake Forest Hospital, board-certified in 73 medical specialties.

On Labor and Delivery, Family Medicine residents evaluate patients in triage, manage labor, and provide post-partum care. Residents participate in interdisciplinary care conferences, where high-risk patients are presented and a team-based approach is utilized to develop safe and equitable delivery plans.

Family Medicine residents also rotate in the Emergency Department at NLFH, gaining hands-on experience in the acute management of life-threatening illnesses, honing procedural skills, and managing critically ill patients. The hospital features advanced technology and increased privacy for patients and visitors. It is part of a redeveloped campus that provides access to primary, specialty and emergency care, as well as a seamless pathway to specialty care from throughout the Northwestern Medicine health system. This includes access to leading-edge clinical trials through Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, an integration that also fosters an environment of academic inquiry and innovative research.
